As a modular building form, container houses are designed with a balance of standardization and flexibility to meet the needs of different scenarios. Currently, container house dimensions are mainly divided into three categories: international standard dimensions, commonly used domestic dimensions, and customized dimensions. Specific parameters need to be considered in conjunction with transportation regulations, functional requirements, and space planning.

International Standard Dimensions: The Benchmark for Global Transportation The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has established strict specifications for the external dimensions of container houses to ensure their compatibility in global sea and land transportation. Typical dimensions are:

Length: 20 feet (6.058 meters), 40 feet (12.192 meters), 45 feet (13.716 meters), with 20 feet and 40 feet being the most common specifications;

Width: The standard width is 8 feet (2.438 meters), with some high cube containers reaching 8.6 feet (2.591 meters);

Height: The standard height is 8.5 feet (2.591 meters), with high cube containers reaching 9.5 feet (2.896 meters). The advantage of this size is that it can be transported directly by container trucks and ships without additional dismantling, making it suitable for cross-border logistics and temporary office scenarios. For example, a standard 20-foot container house has an internal usable area of approximately 14.6 square meters, which can be configured with a desk, bed, and basic living facilities to meet short-term accommodation needs.

Common Domestic Sizes: Adapted to Local Needs
To meet domestic building codes and usage habits, container house sizes have been localized, focusing more on space utilization and comfort. Common sizes include:

Length: 6 meters, 9 meters, 12 meters, covering needs from small tool sheds to medium-sized mobile homes;

Width: 3 meters, 3.5 meters, 4 meters, suitable for narrow spaces and multi-person office scenarios;

Height: 2.8 meters, 3 meters, some customized models can reach 3.5 meters, increasing internal vertical space.

Taking a 9-meter × 3-meter × 2.8-meter container house as an example, its internal area reaches 27 square meters, which can be divided into meeting rooms, rest areas, and storage rooms, and is widely used in construction sites, post-disaster reconstruction, and other scenarios. In addition, domestic manufacturers often use modular splicing technology to combine multiple containers into "L-shaped" or "U-shaped" layouts to further expand the usable space.
